Caste Certificate

A Caste Certificate is an official document issued by the Delhi Government that certifies an individual's belonging to a specific caste, especially those recognized as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC). This certificate is crucial for availing various1 benefits and concessions provided by the government, such as reservations in education, employment, and other social welfare schemes.

How to Apply in Delhi:

You can apply for a Caste Certificate in Delhi through both online and offline modes:

Online Mode:

  • Visit the e-District Portal: Go to the official e-District portal of the Delhi Government: https://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/

  • Register/Login: If you are a new user, you will need to register on the portal. Existing users can log in using their credentials.

  • Select Service: Navigate to the "Apply for Services" section and choose "Caste Certificate".

  • Fill the Application Form: Fill in all the required details in the online application form accurately. This will include personal information, details about your parents, and your caste/sub-caste.

  • Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of all the necessary documents as specified by the portal. Ensure the documents are clear and within the prescribed size limit. You will likely need to upload a scanned copy of a self-declaration/affidavit, and the original might need to be submitted later.

  • Pay Fees (if applicable): Pay the required application fees online if there is an option.

  • Submit Application: After filling in all details and uploading documents, submit the application online. You will receive an acknowledgement slip with an application number for tracking the status.

  • Submit Original Affidavit (if required): As per the guidelines on the e-District portal, you might need to submit the original affidavit to the concerned SDM/Tehsildar/CSC either by hand or through speed post/registered post, along with the application acknowledgement number.

  • Verification: The application will be processed, and verification might be conducted. You may be called for physical verification or asked to provide additional information.

  • Download Certificate: Once the certificate is processed and approved, you can usually download it from the e-District portal using your application number or login credentials.

Offline Mode:

  • Visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) or SDM/Tehsildar Office: Visit your nearest Common Service Centre or the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) or Tehsildar in your area.

  • Obtain Application Form: Request for the Caste Certificate application form.

  • Fill the Form: Fill in all the required details accurately.

  • Attach Documents: Attach photocopies of all the necessary documents as mentioned below.

  • Submit and Pay Fees: Submit the filled form along with the documents and pay the prescribed application fee at the CSC or SDM/Tehsildar office.

  • Collect Acknowledgement: You will receive an acknowledgement slip with a reference number to track your application status.

  • Verification: The application will be processed, and verification might be conducted. You may be called for physical verification or asked to provide additional information.

  • Collect Certificate: You will be informed about when and where to collect your Caste Certificate.

Documents Required in Delhi:

The following documents are generally required to apply for a Caste Certificate in Delhi:

  • Proof of Identity (Any one):

    1. Aadhaar Card

    2. Voter ID Card

    3. PAN Card

    4. Passport

    5. Driving License

    6. Any other Government-recognized photo ID card

  • Proof of Address (Any one):

    1. Aadhaar Card

    2. Voter ID Card

    3. Ration Card

    4. Passport

    5. Driving License

    6. Electricity Bill (latest)

    7. Water Bill (latest)

    8. Telephone Bill (Landline or Postpaid, latest)

    9. Bank Passbook with photograph and address

    10. Registered Rent Agreement

    11. Any other Government-recognized address proof

  • Proof of Caste:

    1. Father's Caste Certificate: Preferably, a copy of your father's valid Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority in Delhi. If your father's certificate is not available, you may need to provide other documentary evidence.

    2. Mother's Caste Certificate: If the father's certificate is not available, the mother's Caste Certificate might be considered along with other supporting documents.

    3. Grandfather's/Other Blood Relatives' Caste Certificate: In the absence of parents' certificates, the Caste Certificate of a paternal grandfather or other blood relatives from the paternal side may be required, along with a genealogy affidavit showing the relationship.

    4. School Leaving Certificate/Birth Certificate: Indicating the caste of the applicant or their parents.

    5. Revenue Records: Old land records or other revenue documents mentioning the caste.

  • Self-Declaration/Affidavit: A duly signed affidavit by the applicant or parent (if the applicant is a minor) stating the applicant's caste and other relevant details. This needs to be on a non-judicial stamp paper of a specific value (e.g., INR 10) and usually needs to be notarized. The format is generally available on the e-District portal or at the SDM/Tehsildar office.

  • Passport-sized Photograph: One recent colored photograph of the applicant. Specific size requirements might be mentioned in the application form.

  • Ration Card (if available): Although not mandatory, it can serve as additional proof of family details.
